Moving beyond HbA1C and plasma glucose levels to understand the glycaemic status in type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract Glycaemic status of patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is widely assessed using glycated haemoglobin (HbA1C). The β‐cell‐centric model presupposes that all diabetes, including T2DM originates from a common denominator, the abnormal pancreatic‐β‐cell, and insulin resistance might not necessarily be the primary defect.1
