Physical restraint: perceptions of nurse managers, registered nurses and healthcare assistants

ConclusionNurse managers and registered nurses are unlikely to use physical restraint. However, there is concern regarding perception of healthcare assistants on use of restraint. Implications for nursing and health policyResults from this study compare favourably with those in countries that have no policy on physical restraint use. Educational programmes alone are insufficient to address use of physical restraint. Attention to skill mix with adequate support for healthcare assistants in long‐term care settings is recommended.
