Pharmacokinetics of single-dose buprenorphine, butorphanol, and hydromorphone in the domestic ferret (mustela putorius furo)

The objective of this study is to establish the clinical pharmacokinetic profile of four different opioid drugs (buprenorphine, butorphanol, hydromorphone, and morphine) in the domestic ferret. Twenty-four, approximately one-year-old, male neutered purpose-bred domestic ferrets (Mustela putorius furo) were used for this study. The ferrets were divided into four groups of six, with a different opioid drug used for each group. A pre-opioid venous blood sample was obtained via cranial vena cava venipuncture.
