Gray Matter Volume of the Anterior Insular Cortex and Social Networking

Using structural magnetic resonance imaging and the social network index, we examined the relationship between morphology of the anterior insular cortex (AIC) and social networking in two independent cohorts of individuals. Results showed a positive correlation between grey matter volume and SNI in right AIC for both cohorts, while this effect was not significant in the amygdala, suggesting that this region supports network‐level social interactions.
