Magnesium suprascapular nerve block for the management of painful shoulder disorders

Acute or chronic shoulder pain is common, but difficult to treat. The pain may be due to arthritis, surgery or trauma [1,2,3,4,5]. Systemic analgesia or complementary therapy may be ineffective [1,2,3,4]. Suprascapular nerve block provides temporary relief for shoulder pain and dysfunction [4,5,6]. Agents used for suprascapular block include local anesthetic or steroid [5]. Another suitable anti-nociceptive agent is magnesium, but there is no previous report of its use for shoulder pain management.
