Hypertension in postmenopausal women: hemodynamic and therapeutic implications

Hypertension is frequent in postmenopausal women and the characteristics of this particular disease state differ markedly from those observed in men and in premenopausal women.1 Specific features are observed, which are distinct from the roles of autonomic and renin-angiotensin systems,1,2 and are likely the direct consequence of the loss of pre-menopause estrogen-induced vasoprotection.3
