Influence of a surface conditioner to pre-sintered zirconia on the biaxial flexural strength and phase transformation

Zirconia ceramic is one of the most promising materials for metal-free restorations because of its excellent mechanical properties and reasonable esthetics [1]. Yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (Y-TZP) is used as a framework substrate and a monolithic material in all-ceramic dental restorations [1 –3]. Zirconia exists in three different crystalline phases according to the temperature: monoclinic (up to 1170°C), tetragonal (1170°C–2370°C), and cubic (above 2370°C) [4]. Y-TZP, which comprises tetragonal zirconia particles and Y2O3 added as a stabilizer, can exist at room temperature [5] .
