A systematic review of measures of medication adherence in consumers with unipolar depression

Medication adherence is a key to successful treatment in many chronic conditions including depression. Over the past two decades, a range of terms have been used to describe the medication taking behaviour of patients, including medication compliance, adherence, and persistence.1 Although these terms have often been used to describe different aspects of medication taking behaviour, in many cases they have been used without a consistent understanding of what particular aspect of medication taking behaviour is being measured and described.
