Lung ultrasound B-lines in dogs with different stages of chronic valvular heart disease
Chronic valvular heart disease (CVHD) is the most common acquired cardiac disease in dogs. The disease is characterized by a progressive degeneration of the mitral valve, which leads to mitral regurgitation. Mitral regurgitation can lead to cardiac remodeling and development of congestive heart failure (CHF). Although most dogs with CVHD remain asymptomatic for years, approximately one-third develop CHF and die from their heart disease. Thus, both early recognition and prompt treatment of cardiac remodeling and CHF are of utmost clinical importance.
