Metformin can treat antipsychotic ‐induced overweight in young people with autism

It is known that atypical antipsychotics cause weight gain and metabolic problems; however, metformin can result in reduction in body mass index (BMI) and weight when prescribed to children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who are prescribed atypical antipsychotics for irritability and aggression; those improvements level off at 16 weeks, a new study has found.
