Who’s Behind Door #3? Helen, the Soulfood Lady!

Imagine my compete surprise when my mother told me this morning that Helen was cooking today.  I thought she would be on sabbatical since my father was gone. “What’s Helen cooking?” I asked my mother intrigued. “I know she’s cooking fried cube steak and rutabagas,” mom replied. “I am unsure of the rest. You know she will cook cornbread.” Helen always says rutabagas hurt her arthritic hands they are so hard to cut up into cubes. Mom then said she would call me around four this afternoon after Helen had plated up my meal. I will then drive over to get my meal and also my sodas for the day. “I am getting us two fried shrimp plates from Merl’s Diner Saturday,” mom told me before I could get off the phone.  “Don’t ruin your appetite.” If mom and I ate like this all the time, we would be bigger than the broad side of a house. Cold Turkey… It has been around two months since I quit smoking now.  Most of the time lately smoking doesn't even enter my thoughts these days.  Certain situations will still trigger a longing for that terrible habit, though.  After I eat, I sometimes want to light up a cigarette.  I especially get cravings for a cigarette when I am on my computer just casually browsing the internet.  I noticed yesterday when I was at my parent’s house that there was still two cartons of cigarettes in mom and dad’s coat closet in the den.  I asked my mother to please give them to Helen which will rem...
