Development of a simultaneous identification method for 13 animal species using two multiplex real-time PCR assays and melting curve analysis

Crimes involving animal attacks on people or vice versa are unfortunately not uncommon. Obtaining forensic evidence to solve such crimes relies on collecting samples from the crime scene to enable identification of the animal species involved. Therefore, the ability to accurately identify animal species has been the subject of many studies in the forensic science field, and also in the food industry, where it is important to prevent improper food labeling and contamination of food with non-permitted species [1 –4].
