Cannabis for personal use in the Supreme Court of Mexico: Legal case and potential for policy change

For almost a century, cannabis has been prohibited in most countries around the world. While in Mexico the prevalence of cannabis use is reported at an impressively low 1%, drug control efforts have focused on reduction of supply through a frontal military operation against drug trade. In 2006, president Felipe Calderon deployed 30,000 soldiers to key states to fight the drugs war; a decade later, president Enrique Pe ña Nieto maintains an army of 75,000 soldiers across the country.
