A new therapeutic proposal for inoperable osteosarcoma: Photodynamic therapy
Balb/c nude mice were transplanted with osteosarcoma tumor cells. When the tumor volume exceeded 100mm3, which was confirmed by Nuclear Medicine imaging after 99mTc-MIBI injection, mice were administered with the photosensitizer (5,15-bis(2-bromo-5-hydroxyphenyl)porphyrin). Photodynamic therapy was completed 72h later using light irradiation. PDT leads to a necrosis decreasing tumor growth. Osteosarcoma models in athymic mice are feasible and facilitate simple in vivo monitoring for the development of new therapies.
