Respiratory syncytial virus A in haematological patients with prolonged shedding: premature stop codons and deletion of the genotype ON1 72-nucleotide-duplication in the attachment G gene

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a frequent cause of upper respiratory tract infection but can be associated with prolonged and severe disease in immunocompromised patients, particularly in haematological stem cell recipients [1 –3]. Lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI) are associated with significant morbidity and mortality in these patients [2–4] and screening for RSV and other respiratory viruses like influenza and parainfluenza is strongly recommended [5].
