The demographics trends reveal that we are aging as a nation and that with each passing year a steadily increasing number of Americans exceed 65 years of age. While cardiovascular disease and cancer remain the most common causes of death in the U.S., older people are particularly concerned about their risks for cognitive impairment and dementia. Seshadri and colleagues1 estimated the cumulative risk of dementia at 33% for men and 45% for women from age 65 to age 100 years.
