Toxocariasis in Africa: A One Health perspective

In this issue of Travel Medicine and Infectious Disease the findings of a first systematic review on toxocariasis in Africa [1] are presented. This is an important paper with implications for human and animal health and it is of significance in raising awareness of toxocariasis as a differential diagnosis in travel related infections acquired in Africa. Although there is overwhelming evidence that humans are frequently exposed to Toxocara spp., substantial knowledge gaps in animals, humans and the environment are major barriers to assessing the impact on individual and public health.
