Highly sensitive determination of alendronate in human plasma and dialysate using metal-free HPLC-MS/MS
As a bisphosphonate, alendronate is a potent inhibitor of bone resorption and is widely used for the prevention and treatment of primary and secondary osteoporosis [1 –7]. Alendronate toxicity to soft tissues such as oral ulceration and acute pancreatitis has been pointed out [8-12]. Alendronate may induce osteonecrosis of the jaw if invasive dental procedures are performed [13,14]. If invasive dental procedures are performed. Hence, the discontinuation of the medication is highly required if the patient needs dental treatments.
