Retrospective analysis of the association of opaque fetal membrane with chorioamnionitis and early neonatal complications: Importance of gross examination of the placenta

Objective: Placental pathological examination is expected as witness for pathogenesis of perinatal abnormality. Opaque fetal membrane is known as one of the abnormal findings of the placenta which indicates chorioamnionitis (CAM). However, the sensitivity, specificity, and clinical efficiency have not been established. The aim of the present study is to retrospectively evaluate the association of the opaque fetal membrane with incidence of CAM and early neonatal complications.
