Sjögren’s Syndrome-Associated Lung Disease

Primary Sjögren syndrome (pSS) is an autoimmune disease that is characterized by oral and ocular sicca but is also recognized to have frequent pulmonary involvement. pSS can impact the respiratory tract, with manifestations extending from the large airways to interstitial lung disease. The pathogenesis of pSS-related lung involvement is thought to involve an interplay of the innate and adaptive immune system. Therapy for treatment of pulmonary manifestations of pSS ranges from supportive measures to systemic immunosuppression. The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of the epidemiology, pathogenesis, and treatment options for pSS-related lung disease.
