Crucial role of PACAP in neural progenitor cells during development and after degeneration

Pituitary adenylatecyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) and its specific receptor (PAC1-R) are expressed in embryonic and postnatal brain, especially in germinative areas. This localization suggests that PACAP effects on neural progenitor cells (NPCs), however, its role during neural development and adult neurogenesis is not fully understood.
