Alarin: a new catabolic neuropeptide

Introduction: Obesity, a severe public health burden, is also observed in other mammals, therefore regulatory alterations may also be assumed in its background. Regulatory neuropeptides of energy homeostasis regulate body weight (BW), metabolic rate (MR) and core body temperature (Tc). Anabolic peptides increase BW via inducing food intake (FI) and suppressing MR and Tc, catabolic ones show opposite effects.
