COVER PHOTOGRAPH: Stage 41. Early pre‐hatching. The tip of the tail extends over the head to the posterior of the eye. The iridocytes start to turn a brown‐orange color. A few small round teeth are visible on the jaws. There are 30‐32 cartilaginous vertebrae with neural and hemal arches forming. Ossification of the vertebrae and arches is underway. In the tail, the hypural plate cartilages are forming.
