Optimizing surgical placement of the HeartWare ventricular assist device in children and adolescents by virtual implantation

In order to safely place adult-size intracorporeal devices into small patients, innovative techniques such as virtual implantation are necessary to assess proper fit. We assessed the hypothesis that virtual implantation of the HeartWare ventricular assist device will facilitate safe placement in patients at or below industry size guidelines.
