Afterword

Almost 10 years ago, we were guest editors for a special issue of this journal on pleasure and drugs (Holt& Treloar, 2008). When we encouraged our colleagues to consider pleasure and drugs, we had a number of aims and interests. We were interested in why pleasure was neglected in drug research, and how that neglect might impede more effective drug policy and harm reduction. We encouraged the contributors to consider how pleasurable drug use could be represented and analysed, and how acknowledging pleasure might lead to better health outcomes.
