Brain changes encountered in alcoholism are manifold and encompass brain atrophy, selective neuronal loss, astroglial, and microglial changes. Alcohol-related disorders are complex multifactorial disorders where the interaction of multiple genes and environment plays an important role in the pathogenesis.
