Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty: case report, technique and literature review

Abstract We are reporting the first case of endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty performed in Asia on a patient with obesity and the metabolic syndrome. This is also the first report of endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty with paired Fibroscan examination. The patient made an instant recovery, and showed a remarkable amount of weight loss and improvement in his metabolic profile and liver parameters which was sustained at one year follow‐up. Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty appears promising as an intervention for obese patients with the metabolic syndrome who are not optimally responding to medical therapy but at the same time do not fulfil the criteria or do not wish for more invasive bariatric surgical options. Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty may also be useful in the treatment of non‐alcoholic steatohepatitis and this deserves further studies.
