Development and characterization of nanofibrous mat from PVA/Tridax Procumbens (TP) leaves extracts

Publication date: Available online 22 September 2017 Source:Wound Medicine Author(s): P Ganesan, P Pradeepa In this work an attempt made biodegradable polymer of PVA (10% conc.) blended with methanol extract of Tridax Procumbens (TP) leaves (10% conc.) in the ratio of 80/20 and electrospun into nanofibrous mat. Nanofibrous mat was characterized by basic properties like thickness, porosity, density. The Porosity of the nanofibrous mat was analyzed by using capillary flow porometer and result showed that it has largest pore diameter at 2.26 microns. The morphological studies to evaluate the diameter and surface structure of PVA/TP nano fibrous mat using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and chemical compound analysis of PVA/TP nano fibrous mat through Fourier Transforms Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Antimicrobial activity of the nanofibrous mat was analyzed against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria and the result shows that excellent zone of inhibitions and better resistivity power against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
