Clinical hypertension: Blood pressure variability

Hypertension (HTN) is a global epidemic, and continues to be a leading cause of cardiovascular and cerebral complications with major economic implications.1,2 In the United States (US), the total crude prevalence of HTN over 2013 –14 has been estimated to be 33.5% in adults aged 20 and over.2 HTN is an established strong predictor of overall mortality, cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, and end stage kidney disease,1 and has been recognized as the cause of death (primary or contributing) in an estimated 410,000 deaths in the US in the year 2014.
