Special Issue: Seminars in Hematology: Impact and Future of Social Media Utilization Among Healthcare Stakeholders in the Field of Hematology and Oncology

Based on data from the Pew Research Center, approximately 70% of Americans are using social media platforms for connection and communication [1,2]. Remarkably, in 2005, at the time this information was first collected, only 5% of Americans were engaging in social media [1]. Additionally, it is becoming increasingly clear that communication via the Internet and social media are mainstays of of the modern medical era, both in clinical practice [3] as well for both the conduction and reporting of academic medical research [4,5].
