Masimo Root Patient Monitoring Platform with Advanced Connectivity Cleared in U.S.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given Masimo clearance to market its Root patient monitoring system in the States. While many clinical monitors are standalone devices, sometimes being able to send their data onto an EHR, the Root is specifically designed as a central connectivity platform that works with other devices for displaying and sharing readings. The root includes a dock for the Masimo Radical-7 handheld monitor that can measure continuously total hemoglobin, oxygen content, carboxyhemoglobin, and methemoglobin, as well as provide Measure-through Motion and Low Perfusion pulse oximetry for oxygen saturation (SpO2), pulse rate, perfusion index, and pleth variability index (PVI). Respiration rate monitoring is done through an acoustic sensor (RRa) or via the plethysmograph waveform (RRp). Besides the Radical-7, the Root platform allows other devices, including third party ones,  to interface with it through the Iris gateway and the Masimo Open Connect interface. These can include IV pumps, ventilators, other monitors, and just about any other relevant device. This allows other firms to design compatible medical devices that have powerful data sharing capabilities without having to deal with developing the entire background IT infrastructure that’s inside the Root. The device has a touch screen and features WiFi connectivity for convenience around patients that already have enough wires in the vicinity. Product page: Masimo Root… Press relea...
