Maropitant

Maropitant (Cerenia) is a highly specific neurokinin-1 receptor (NK-1R) antagonist that has been developed as a general anti-emetic for canine and feline use. Currently, research investigations involving cats and dogs suggest that maropitant may be beneficial as an analgesic in a multi-modal analgesia protocol and/or as a pre-anesthetic medication. At this time the use of maropitant, has shown no significant effect on resting blood pressure, respiration rate and depth during general anesthesia,1 while reducing the MAC of sevoflurane by 16% when administered IV in dogs2 and prevents vomiting induced by morphine3 or dexmedetomidine.
