This book reviews the foundations, evolution, and current status of Psychosomatic Medicine (nee Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry). Its author has been a major figure in the modern development of the specialty. Dr Lipsitt established and edited two important journals that have shaped our field. Both the International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine and General Hospital Psychiatry provided an essential forum for clinical data and broad ranging perspectives that have led to the designation of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry as a recognized subspecialty within Psychiatry.
