Preprocedural Ultrasound Assessment Does Not Improve Trainee Performance of Spinal Anesthesia for Obstetrical Patients: A Randomized Controlled Trial

(Abstracted from J Clin Anesth, 37:21–24, 2017) The purpose of this trial was to assess the effectiveness of preprocedural ultrasound examination in facilitating spinal placement by junior anesthesia residents on patients undergoing elective cesarean delivery. Between February 2011 and October 2012, 17 trainee residents participated and performed spinal anesthesia 1 to 8 times on 80 healthy obstetric patients.
