Use of Postoperative Peak Arterial Lactate Level to Predict Outcome After Cardiac Surgery

(Abstracted from J Cardiothorac Vasc Anesth, 31:45–53, 2017) The purpose of this single-center retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data was to determine the role of lactate levels in predicting the severity of perioperative circulatory failure in patients recovering from cardiac surgery. Many reports support the link between elevated perioperative lactate levels and postoperative complications including mortality.
