Foreword

Obesity has been implicated as one of the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease and its prevalence has increased during the last decades not only in the United States but worldwide. In the issue of the Journal, Parto P and Lavie CJL report the adverse effects of obesity on cardiac structure, hemodynamics, and cellular abnormalities. In addition, the authors describe the association between obesity and risk factors for cardiovascular disease such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, dyslipidemia, atrial fibrillation, and depression.
