Foreword

In 1968, the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology (AACT) was created with the goal of “advancing the diagnosis and treatment of poisoning”. Recognizing that achieving this goal would require a diverse set of backgrounds and skills, the AACT sought to unite scientists and clinicians. Since its beginning, the AACT has retained this multidisciplinary approach. The membership of the AACT is unique compared with other scientific and medical societies. Membership is not restricted to those holding a certain degree or completing a specific training program.
