Despite a decline in new HIV diagnoses in the United States during the past decade, significant HIV-related disparities persist (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2016). Among the most marked HIV-related disparities in the United States has been the ongoing disproportionate representation of Black women in the numbers of U.S. women newly diagnosed with HIV infection (CDC, 2017). Specifically, while Black women comprise only 13% of the U.S. female population, Black women account for 61% of women with new HIV diagnoses (CDC, 2017).
