Reflections on the Anaconda ™ abdominal aortic stent graft

Reid Endovascular aneurysm repair has become the primary modality for repair of infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm1,2. A number of companies produce stent grafts for this indication. The following review focuses on the specific benefits and features of the AnacondaTM(Vasutek, Inchinnan, Scotland) device. It is a modular, re-positionable graft with features to aid cannulation of the contralateral gate and facilitate a seal in more challenging neck anatomy. Our West of Scotland experience with the Anaconda has proved favourable. More recent developments now allow for the treatment of juxtarenal aneurysms not previously amenable to endovascular aneurysm (EVAR) repair. These repairs carry a five percent, thirty day mortality which is probably multi factorial. The true utility of the AnacondaTM stent graft probably lies in the ability to manage what would previously have been considered hostile or inoperable aneurysm neck morphology.
