Your Environment Matters

Who Surrounds You? There is a familiar quotation from the legendary author and speaker Jim Rohn, had a famous saying: You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Think about it.  Who do you spend most of your time with – day in and day out?  Are those people supportive of your goals?  My good friend Thom Singer wrote an excellent post today about the importance of connecting with people to lift you up. He writes: Mr. Rohn was right.  If you are engulfed by self-doubt, limiting beliefs, and negativity, it can be a result of the input you are receiving from others.  The reverse is true too, as if you are inspired to take action, excited about the future, and positively focused…. you are most likely spending time with the right people. Read Thom’s post on his Some Assembly Required Blog Thom is right too.  Trying to lose weight is much more difficult if you are surrounded by people who entice you to eat more and eat the wrong things.  However, being more active is easier if you are surrounded by people who will invite you out for a walk or a bike ride.  This is why programs such as Weight Watchers work so well.  Being with people who share and support your goals is important. Take a moment to think about your five people.  Who are they?
