NIH undertakes public ‐private opioid initiative
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), under the leadership of Francis S. Collins, M.D., Ph.D., director of the National Institute of Health (NIH), is moving forward to establish a public‐private partnership addressing three major areas: (1) new and innovative medications to treat opioid use disorders and for overdose prevention and reversal; (2) safe, effective and nonaddictive strategies to manage chronic pain; and (3) neurobiology of chronic pain.
