A hybrid algorithm for speckle noise reduction of ultrasound images

In today scenario, medical image modality like ultrasound imaging is one of the prominent diagnostic techniques to view the internal anatomy (such as abdomen, liver, kidney and musculoskeletal) of a human body. But, ultrasound (US) images are generally corrupted with speckle noise that appears as granular pattern due to constructive and destructive coherent interferences of backscattered echoes from the scatters [1 –2]. This phenomenon degrades the contrast resolution of US images which makes the extraction of significant information from the speckle corrupted US images as one of the complicated tasks.
