High Thyroid-stimulating Hormone Levels Increase Proinflammatory and Cardiovascular Markers in Patients with Extreme Obesity: Methodological Issues

We were interested to read the paper by G ómez-Zamudio and colleagues published in Archives of Medical Research in Aug 2016 (1). The authors tried to determine the prevalence of hypothyroidism in patients with extreme obesity and evaluate the correlation between Thyroid-stimulating Hormone (TSH) levels and serum levels of inflammatory and cardiovascular markers. The results have demonstrated a high prevalence of hypothyroidism in patients with extreme obesity, in addition, there were a statistical significance correlation between serum TSH levels and serum levels of inflammatory and cardiovascular markers (1).
