Lung-RADS Version 1.0

The National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) demonstrated that screening for lung cancer with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) results in a 20% reduction of lung cancer-specific mortality in high-risk patients.1 The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends annual screening with LDCT for adults 55 –80 years of age who have a 30 pack-year smoking history and currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years.2 Similar eligibility criteria have been proposed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) although a narrower patient age range of 55–77 years is employed.
