Letter to the editor - Adverse events associated with the use of cervical spine manipulation or mobilization and patient characteristics

The paper by Kranenburg (Kranenburg et  al., 2017) et al., states that “Cervical artery dissection … was reported in 57% of cases.”, which may give the reader a very distorted picture on risk of dissections. Their search identified 144 studies containing 227 cases for all adverse events (AE) following both spinal manipulation (SM T) and mobilization, from six databases up to December 2014. This would suggest a very rare condition, give the number of people that have received spinal manipulation and mobilization since databases commenced (ie 1907?).
