Implementation of cancer prevention control program in private sector in Iran

However, this enhancement is mainly due to changing life style, increasing life expectancy, population growth, exposure to cancer risk factors, urbanization expansion, and reduction in child birth. To date, based on present knowledge about cancer risk factors about 40% of cancers are amenable to prevention. Therefore implementation of cancer prevention strategies is not only necessity for battling against this burden but also is the most effective way to reduce the increasing slope of cancer mortality rate, particularly in low and middle income countries such as Iran, never the less the fact should be considered that prevention approach effects become manifested in long time run. As response to the growing cancer concern in Iran, we as a non-governmental organization designed a cancer prevention program in Alborz province, the fourth populous city in Iran, which is based on World Health Organization prevention program. The prevention program was run based on six main strategies which are discussed in detail in this article.
