EDITORIAL: The Continuum of Dysglycemia: Predicting Progression from Prediabetes to Type 2 Diabetes

In the first Global Diabetes Report, released in 2016, the World Health Organization noted that the “prevalence of diabetes is steadily increasing everywhere…”1 Currently, there are more than 422 million adults with diabetes worldwide, and the global estimate is projected to increase to nearly 600 million adults by 2040.1–3 The country-specific estimates indicate that the top 10 nations wi th the highest diabetes burden are China (109.6 million), India (99.2 million), the United States of America (29.3 million), Brazil (14.3 million), Russian Federation (12.1 million), Mexico (11.5 million), Indonesia (10 million), Egypt (7.8 million), Japan (7.2 million) and Bangladesh (7.1 million).
