SSRIs for children and adolescents: NIMH trials show better efficacy than meta ‐analyses indicate

On one side: meta‐analyses of studies suggesting that antidepressants are no better than placebo for children and adolescents with depression. On the other: federally supported studies that do show efficacy. This other side is discussed in a recent literature review, in which psychiatrist John T. Walkup, M.D., explains the complexities needed to understand the literature and, in particular, the strengths and weaknesses of meta‐analysis.
