Epidural Volume Extension During Combined Spinal-Epidural Labor Analgesia Does Not Increase Sensory Block

This study examined the effect of epidural volume extension (EVE) on the intrathecal component of a combined spinal-epidural (CSE) during labor analgesia. The hypothesis of this study was that epidural injection of 10 mL normal saline, after initiating CSE analgesia for labor, would result in a higher sensory level 15 minutes after the intrathecal injection.
