Pheromone to stop cats scratching furniture

Ceva Animal Health has introduced Feliscratch by Feliway, which it describes as an innovative new pheromone to help redirect unwanted scratching behaviour by cats. According to research by the company, scratching on household furniture is the most common unwanted behaviour in cats, with 56 per cent of owners reporting it. Ceva explains that its new product is a synthetic copy of the feline interdigital semiochemical, which is naturally produced by cats, and that it has been clinically proven to help redirect scratching behaviour onto a desired location, such as a scratching post. It says the product attracts cats in three ways – first, catnip attracts the cat to the scratching post, secondly the pheromone directs scratching onto its surface where the product has been applied and, thirdly, a blue stain mimics a visual message (scratch marks) to cats.
